Start a Collection

Looking for a new hobby? Wishing to meet people worldwide?
Interrested in a beautiful and colourful collection? Seeking to know more about other cultures?
Welcome to A Fresh Start in Phonecard Collecting.

This page is an introduction to phonecard collecting. There are thousands of ways to collect cards. A few tips and suggestions on how to get started into this collection that was once unusual and that has now become very popular thanks to the development of telecommunications.

One may wish to collect cards according to different criteria:

-Country of origin (Islands, Europe, Africa...)
-Thematical cards (Animals, Nature, Women, Cars...)
-Types of cards (Chip, Magnetic, Gsm cards...).

Apart from the content of a collection, there are many other aspects that enhance the interest of phonecard collecting. It is a wonderful opportunity to correspond regularly with people worldwide, it helps to develop qualities like negociation and trust.

Once the theme of the collection is defined, you need to find material to start a collection, either picking up cards here and there or participating in phonecards' exchanges (swapping through the internet, by mail or during collectors' regular meetings).

As from here, you should start thinking in terms of market needs and availability. How to get cards you will swap? How to give them a face value? Which card to swap for which other? How to classify cards? Look out for novelties and recent phonecards'catalogues? Check the number of cards issued, etc... .

There is more than meets the eye in phonecard collection especially when one tries
to acheive very complete sets, including all cards from the most recent ones to the best masterpieces.
Beware that phonecard collecting carries you into an unending quest far away from your starting point !
